On Sunday, January 4th, the first maintenance hike for 2026 took place, dedicated to parents and children. Our group consisted of 11 people, including 3 children, from various parts of Andros (Gavrio, Kolympos, Chora, Messaria). Initially, we followed the route waymarked with No. 1 Messaria – Menites – Lamyra, a gentle and short route, ideal for little explorers.
The weather, despite being in the heart of winter, was ideal for hiking. The path, although in good condition overall, had increased vegetation in places, which we addressed during the route with our shears and saws. We toured the lush green settlements of Menites and Lamyra, with the sound of running water accompanying us for much of the route.
We took a short break in Raoussa and then deviated from route 1 and, following a local unmarked path, descended to the natural farm Livada. There, we were welcomed by the ever-hospitable Alexandros and Dimitra, offering us homemade pumpkin pie and hot cocoa. Alexandros gave us a tour of the farm and talked to us about the natural farming methods, which respect the environment and nature. Then, we had the opportunity to collect vegetables and fruits from the farm, making our experience even more experiential.
We left with full bags, but most importantly with new experiences, knowledge and beautiful memories.
We warmly thank all participants, and especially Alexandros and Dimitra for their warm hospitality.
We look forward to seeing you at the next maintenance hike on Saturday, January 17th, on the Tromarchia circular route!
