To the excellent work carried out by the Directorate of Modern Cultural and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture, registering every year dozens of elements of the intangible cultural heritage of our country in the National Inventory, in recent days the release of a collective volume on the cheese-making tradition of Greece, entitled “Cheesemaking and cheese”, in the Nutritional Cultural Heritage of Greece series.

In the volume that included a variety of perspectives and aspects of the cheese-making tradition of our country, and in the section that connects the cultural heritage of cheese-making (tangible and intangible) with sustainable development, Ms. Valia Stergioti as manager of educational programs of the European organization “Interpret Europe” and Olga Karagianni as coordinator of the Andros Routes project, to contribute text. In their text, which was included in the volume entitled: “Preserving and highlighting the cheese-making heritage of Andros in the context of hiking tourism and interpretive tours”, they link the discovery of the Andriotic landscape, an eminently pastoral landscape, with the cheese-making tradition itself, the hiking activity and the interpretive tour tool. Through the text, the possibilities of supporting the visitation of the rural area of Andros are presented, with the qualities of raising awareness, introducing visitors to the cheese-making tradition of the island, as well as supporting the herdsmen and cheese-makers of Andros, through the use of the paths.

We sincerely thank the Directorate of Modern Cultural and Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture for including the text on Andros and for their cooperation.

In recent years, our organization has been planning and undertaking actions and initiatives to support the primary sector of Andros and connect it with visitors. In January 2023 we organized a seminar for local producers https://www.androsroutes.gr/day-event-for-the-producers-of-andros/, we created a digital map of producers, processors and sellers of local products of Andros, in relation to the hiking routes, a process that is always open and free of charge to support local products. You can see all the local cheesemakers registered on the map at the link here https://androsresearchcenter.org/en/paragwgoi/ If you know a cheesemaker who is not registered, you can contact us at office_support@androsroutes.gr or encourage him to register directly by filling out the form here https://aris.androsroutes.gr/newvendor/
